Have a Cow, Man!

Just when you thought America couldn't get any fatter... Fast upon the heels of the release of a study by the American Heart Association that Americans are closing the "obesity gap," a burger and beer joint in Clearfield, PA unleashes the beefy 15 pound Beer Barrel Belly Buster burger.

I wonder if Kate Stelnick, the first person to tackle a six pound offering in less than three hours back in January, is going to give this one a try. In this post on a road trip web site, "Burgergirl" - a user who says she is the beef eater - really loved the last one .

I think you should all tryy bc it it was sooo good!

An 11 pound uncle to the new burger was enough to kill you, according to DietPower, the makers of personal nutrition software.

What does this massive meal do to your body? According to our nutrient analysis, it might kill you. It delivers 10 times the Daily Value (DV) of fat -- enough to trigger a heart attack if you have a bad ticker, studies show.

Meanwhile, the food industry is telling you that being fat is no problem. And the CDC says you may live longer if you are just slightly overweight.

Confused? Pick one of twelve new USDA food pyramids.

If all this is enough to make you scream for ice cream, be sure to visit Ben & Jerry's and vote to raise your favorite flavor from the flavor graveyard!

The War on Homosexuality

This article by the Wall Street Journal I found through Andrew Sullivan's site not only shows how the religious right's numbers are debunked, but it shows - in plain words - the real agenda of the Family Research Institute:

Speaking about his institute, Dr. Cameron told me, "We agree that homosexuality is one of the greatest public-health threats of our time, and that engaging in it ought to be discouraged to the same degree that we discourage illegal drug abuse."

FRI's false "studies" give fuel to the religious right's ill-informed attack on gays and lesbians. Policymakers are using these studies to make policy! If you read above, it sure does sound to me like they want to lock up gays and lesbians with the same ferociousness that we toss nonviolent drug users into prisons - raids in the middle of the night while you make love in the privacy of your own home.

This generation's Republicans are going to give a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Just say no."

Runaway Right

While you are watching the terribly important Runaway Bride story unfold, State of Florida Republicans are forcing babies to risk their lives having babies. A 13 year-old girl must relinquish her right to an abortion as permitted by state law because (get this) she's too immature to make that decision.

The Case of L.G.

Which rights are they going to take away from you?

If you think this is important, please pass it along. The mainstream media has barely picked it up.
